Christmas is almost here! Are you the all out shopping person, or the keep it simple with family time only holiday goer? I must say that my family is the latter after our family grew so large that Christmas changed its focus to the dinner together rather than gift giving. It was a hard sell for some of us but we finally did it! 🙂 Remember to look after #1 and have those brisk walks outside, good rest, high nutrient diet (soups are awesome), supplements of vitamins C and D, exercise, lots of great gratitude, affirmations, and intentions, and a routine, even if that word makes you cringe. Keep in touch with the people you love.

A little bit about what I’ve been up to. For one thing, spring cleaning super early! Yes, you heard it. Aiming for the minimalist think as much as possible- another reason NOT to do the whole gift giving- we all have more than enough stuff 🙂 I still am bringing Kingston transients into my home while they either study at Queen’s, St. Lawrence College, or prepare to set up permanent roots in K- Town. During the first few weeks of December is when they start to trickle out and I have my home to myself for a while before the next wave comes in. I am so excited to be welcoming a returning guest after Christmas from Cairo! Also preparing presentations for real estate investments, continuing to build relationships, advance my speaking skills at Toastmasters International, and constantly learning. 2023 will be a changing year for me. More to come on that! On December 13th we also have a big event taking place in Kingston. For many decades the idea of a third crossing has been discussed to compliment the South crossing of the Rideau Canal and the also the 401 Highway crossing.

On December 13th we have a big event taking place in Kingston. For many decades the idea of a third crossing has been only that- an idea, to compliment the South crossing of the Rideau Canal and the also the 401 Highway crossing to the North. Since our beautiful city straddles the Rideau and has become such a popular city to live in, the rising traffic volumes decided it was time! Here are only a few of the hundreds of photos of the process that began in December of 2019; three years ago!

A photo submitted to the Whig Standard in 1925!

The beginnings of the temporary causeway in early 2020 built mostly of gravel from where the workers, trucks, and machinery constructed the bridge also included a section that could rise up to allow boats through! The temporary causeway has now  been removed. The sections that jut out to the left are where the support piers were placed.

The final product first week of December 2022. Just a few finishing touches to go, many of them landscaping. The Waaban Bridge is set to open December 13th! The concrete section is for pedestrians and cyclists complete with three viewing decks!

Merry Christmas to all, and a Happy, Healthy New Year!

Because our dollars are losing value as inflation outpaces the cost of living and the interest we are receiving on other investments! Read that again. Below is a chart of what inflation rates have done over the past few years.

When our typical investment product nets us, at best, 1.5% interest per year, and inflation is four times that, your money is losing its purchasing power quickly. The following website shows how a loaf of bread in the U.S. has doubled in price since 2010. Has your retirement fund doubled just from interest alone? Not likely. https://datahub.io/gavram/loaf-of-bread-price

The amazing thing about real estate is that even when there is a small correction in prices in a nearly ever rising cycle of value, you can still make double digit returns on your investments by working with a professional.
